For those who have never taken time to read the Rook rule book, but have only played Rook as their family or community plays it, you're missing a treat -- if you like card games in general, there are Rook variants that are very fine flavors of "regular" games you might know. For me, the finest and most enticing game in the whole dang rule book is BOSTON.
As a bridge player of some modest skill and a few master points, I find the idea of playing what is essentially "bridge with count cards too" to be a powerfully attractive idea, utterly fascinating the more I think about it.
But alas, I've never had the opportunity of finding myself in with Rook players who also know bridge, or bridge players who also like Rook, and so it remains just one more game that I haven't played.
