When I was a kid, my best friend and I would play war instead of going to P.E. We were geeks, not jocks, and the idea of getting pummeled in dodge ball, or rubbed into the ground like a cigarette butt in wrestling, wasn't all that appealing.The gym was a detached building 100 feet from the school, and when the class would go outside to head there, we would fall to the end of the line, then sneak into the 3 foot wide space between the building and the hedges growing around it.
An hour of playing war seems mind numbing to me now, but back then it was kind of exciting, as I never did anything that could get me in trouble, and skipping P.E. seemed so dangerous to my 9 year old mind!
