Thread: Scrabble:: Variants:: German version and German vocab

Recently purchased an old edition of German Scrabble. It's the one with 119 tiles and the rule set specifying 8 tiles on a player's rack instead of 7. The current rules have been changed to reflect the more internationally standardized 7-tile rack, but it seems to me that the game would play better in German with more tiles. German features typically longer words; hand soap for example is two four-letter words in English, but is handseifen, a single 9-letter word in German. Such long words are extremely common.

Has anyone played both ways and found any difference?
