I have pretty well picked over the games closet at my parents' house by now and taken everything that is any good since I moved out ages ag (since my dad absolutely does not play games), so during some Thanksgiving downtime the other day there wasn't much to choose from. We eeny-meeny-miny-moed over Star Wars Life and Star Wars (Episode 1, yech) Monopoloy and ended up on this.I don't think the game had ever been played (I vaguely remember picking it up for like $5 on Clearance at Toys-R-Us when I was in college), so I'm not sure why there were pieces missing, but the most annoying was that there was no arm on the spinner, so every time it spun we just had to wait for it to stop on its own momentum.
Having only played it the one time, I will offer this with a grain of salt, but I've got to say: This session was insanely boring. Though the two of us realized about halfway through that there did not seem to be a compelling reason NOT to take the dark path more. We both dabbled in the dark side at some point and were easily "redeemed" by squares before we got to the end anyway. So at the end we were both fully light Jedi, and finished pretty close to each other, and there was no battle and it was pretty anti-climactic.
There is more strategy involved than regular Life, at least, since you do have occasional decisions about which skills to pick up. But it would have been more entertaining if I was driving around in a spaceship with a little blue peg representing Han Solo IMO. I will not discount that this game could be fun for kids, though - it might be a nice introduction to strategy for kids who have mostly been in the regular Life and Candyland space before this and are big Star Wars fans.
According to the results of our Jedi personality tests at the end, my friend is balanced, and I'm intuition-fighting. We put it back into the back of the games closet. Then we ventured out on BLACK FRIDAY to go to a bookstore to buy something else to play.
