The fourth and most popular (and most interesting) way to play it is the "Team Risk" variant, where good and evil battle using different victory conditions. We all know this version but I personally do not like this as often the evil team just concentrates its main force at the bottom and waits for the perfect situation for the ring and the good player to arrive down while the good must stay from north and protect the ring.

Played using the "Team Variant" (#4 on your list), this is one of my all-time favorite games. I would caution that if you choose to play this way that you change the rules a bit in the set-up of the game when you select cards. Essentially, since the Dark Side has an overall advantage when it comes to the ring timing mechanism it is extremely difficult for the light side to win if their starting regions require them to fight amongst themselves.
